JOAN ELAINE SIRI

February 18, 1937 - December 13, 2011

  Joan Elaine Siri (Joanie), 74, passed peacefully at her Fallon residence Tuesday, December 13, 2011, with her two daughters at her bedside. She was born February 18, 1937, to Irene and Phil Heater in Bishop, California.  In 1953, Joan moved to Fallon with her family where she finished high school and met her future husband Richard Mills.  The couple's marriage in August of 1957 launched her military lifestyle as an officer’s wife and mother. The final move of their military life landed the family in Ogden, Utah, where Joan attended Weber State College and earned her bachelors degree in education. She later returned to Northern Nevada and worked in the Lyon County school district for 22 years teaching learning disabled and special needs students. Of her many interests and accomplishments, photography, travel, books, and the companionship of her animals were just a few.  She was a member of the local AAUW chapter and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Fallon.  

     She was preceded in death by both parents and her younger brother Philip Heater, Jr.

     Surviving are her two daughters, Elaine Hummel and Celeste Mills; son-in-law, Darren Hummel; grandchildren, Kelsey Visarraga and Dustin Hummel; sister, Lorraine Thompson; and her constant companions, pets:  Josie, Rocky, Roselie and Zero.

     Memorial services will be held at The Gardens Funeral Home, 2949 Austin Hwy., Fallon, NV on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00pm. Future interment at Westline Street Cemetery, Bishop, California.
