Herman was born in Tioga County Pennsylvania.  He married Marsha Kellogg in 1983 and served in the US Navy for 17 years as a hospital corpsman.  He retired from the US Navy in 1996 and eventually made his home in the Reno area.  
 
He is survived by his wife Marsha, 3 children; James, Samantha and Jen, mother; Emma George, brother; Brian Kilburne, sisters; Fran Jankowski, Vicky Veon, Linda Brown, Faye Youmans and Tammey Horton.  Herman died of cancer on November 28th, 2011.
