Duane Schottel, 87, native Nevadan, passed away on Saturday, November 26,2011 at Pershing General Nursing Facility in Lovelock, Nevada. Born in Reno, NV. to Avery and Merle Schottel on Sept. 11,1924. He attended schools in Reno,(McKinley Park-B.D. Billinghurst and graduated from Reno High school in 1943). He entered the US Navy and was stationed aboard the battleship USS Idaho for his entire enlistment. He was awarded 4 service ribbons with the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 6 oak leaf clusters.Duane returned to Reno after his discharge from the military, moving to Fallon in 1960.He worked in the retail field, mostly grocery stores. He managed the IH Kent grocery store for many years. Duane loved to hunt, fish, dig for bottles, gardening and just being in the mountains.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Galen; sister, Shirley; wife of 44 years, Helen; stepson, Ben Vincent. Duane is survived by his son, Michael Schottel of Lovelock, Nevada; daughter Kathy Grettum of Fallon; step-children, Elliott Vincent; Byron Vincent both of Fallon and Vickie of Wasilla, Alaska; numerous grand-and great-grandchildren.
There will be no services per his request.
